Why Wellness Matters

Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is absolutely crucial to live a higher quality life. Wellness matters. Wellness matters because everything we do and every emotion we feel relates to our well-being. In turn, our well-being directly affects our actions and emotions. It’s an ongoing circle. Therefore, it is important for everyone to achieve optimal wellness in order to subdue stress, reduce the risk of illness and ensure positive interactions

There’s nothing worse than having so much on your mind that you can’t sleep well or actually be productive. In reality, many people are walking around daily stressed in their minds but functioning fully. It is possible for one to grow accustomed to operating in stress, so much so that they never realize that their even experiencing it. This can be known as High-functioning depression and is a real thing; it can have serious consequences if not addressed and treated. The diagnosis for high-functioning depression is officially called persistent depressive disorder, or PDD. Someone struggling with PDD may experience many of the symptoms of depression, but less severely. This allows the person to be able to function normally, they can going to work or school, performing well, keeping up with responsibilities at home, and engaging in most social activities. This type of stress & depression can be difficult to detect in oneself, but especially in others. To the outside world, a person with PDD seems fine. Internally that person is struggling. High-functioning depression may not seem as serious as major depression, but it should be diagnosed and treated. Living with PDD can be a struggle and lowers quality of life, but treatment and self-management can help. Some people opt to take medicine to control this but others go the holistic route and choose to seek therapy, take up meditation and making necessary lifestyle changes to gain control. It is really important that we take the time to self-assess ourselves so that we recognize the differences or changes in ourselves. If we did we would be more apt to notice the onset of stress that can ultimately leads to depression. If we start to focus on healthy mind building it is likely that we can gain control of most things that can cause us this mental anguish. I do a lot of mind building by reading, meditating, and sitting in stillness. I also make it a habit of thinking healthy thoughts; by forcing myself into positive thinking it helps me to express positively. This also helps me manage and process my thoughts and feelings so that I am in control of what I let myself internalize. By not internalizing things that are unnecessary, I am able to better manage and recognize the level of stress that I’m under. It’s important that we acknowledge what our mind and bodies express to us so that we can live in wellness, pay attention and be proactive! ~Live Well~
