4 Women United Black History Month 2019
This is an explosive time in history for everyone. However, this explosion is not new to black and brown people; even up until this moment in time our struggle is still real.
Black people are a unique people and everybody knows it. The reason I know is because everywhere we go people want to know who we are. We continue to tell them, we continue to show them that we are a mighty, mighty people who were freed with nothing and struggled for everything to create something of our own. Yes we have, yes we are, and yes we continue to grow and prosper in spite of deliberate road blocks, despite the bland hatred, the cruel jealously, and the obvious killing and stealing of our youth. Yes - in spite of it all - we still rise to our feet. Who are we? A unique people.
“We will prevail because we have proven to the world and to ourselves that we are not fringe elements or special interest groups or so-called minorities without us there is no legitimate majority, We are the mainstream” (jjordan).
Who are we? We are the inventors, we are the pioneers, we are the warriors, we are the sacrifices, we are the winners and we must recognize that our ancestors did not endure these hardships for us to be sub servants.
Therefore on the 155th anniversary of the ending of slavery we must understand and move in the fierce urgency of right now. Justice must be inclusive. True freedom will only exist when everyone works together.
There is energy in our escape, there is power in our purpose and strength in our struggle, and we must be courageous enough to truly believe Proverbs 3: 5-6 states “Trust in the Lord, lean not on to your own understanding, acknowledge him in all your ways and he will guide your path”
Who are we? Again, we shout, “we are a mighty, mighty people standing on the shoulders of so many great black and brown champion leaders of yesteryears, yesterday, today and tomorrow’s victories.”
In honor of Black History Month of year 2019 I am shouting, “It is our time to shine now.”
Telling the true stories of who we truly are in the making of the world as people know it today.
WHO ARE WE? A MIGHTY, MIGHTY PEOPLE!!
